From the project Tris- 2022-ongoing

One subfield I study is dendrochronology, or the analysis of tree rings to uncover information about past atmospheric and environmental conditions. It is an art form in itself, to read the barcodes hidden within wood annual growth rings for tales recorded long ago. To witness those stories revealed layer by layer is both a scientific and poetic process.

In this project I edit images thinking of a musical result instead of a photographic one, using a software that transforms pixel encoding to MIDI (digital instrument interface). By fusing art, science and technology, I study past memories of land and vocalize them. With this practice, I am able to reclaim archival pieces already contained within the land for any visitor’s sensory exploration.

Through this process I aim to explore how memories exist not only in physical landforms but also within hidden codes found in nature itself, populated with narratives waiting to be unveiled.

(In this investigation I count with the help of Emilia Gutierrez, professor at the Department of Ecology at the University of Barcelona, which provides me with free access to the laboratory specialized in Dendrochronology and forest dynamics )
